Job Description:

WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST needed for entry level or mid-level positions with a small environmental consulting company in North Carolina. Company works primarily with protected species (flora and fauna) and wetlands in Southeastern United States (US). Biologist will conduct wildlife surveys (ground and aerial), conduct plant surveys, manage and maintain existing datasets, monitor and band red-cockaded woodpeckers (RCW), evaluate project impacts, collect and analyze pine stand data, write Biological/ Environmental Assessments and have contact with clients

 

Qualifications:

Experience banding RCW, climbing Swedish ladders and identifying banded RCWs with a spotting scope is PREFERRED. The ability to install/ construct RCW artificial cavities (inserts and/ or drilled) is PREFERRED. References for this experience should be included with resume. Resumes that list experience with that above will be considered above those resumes without. Experience with wildlife field surveys, aerial photography, plant identification/ surveys desirable. Must be able to work independently or with a team and be willing to travel 1-2 months at a time throughout the southeastern US regularly (vehicle and expenses provided). Will work long hours, including some weekends. Applicant must have a tolerance of snakes and biting insects and be physically able to work long hours in the field (often very hot/humid, dense vegetation and/or wet areas). Strong organizational, writing and interpersonal skills are required. Computer skills required (ArcView, GPS, Windows, Microsoft Office). Experience driving 4-wheel drive vehicles, ATVs and/ or operating a small boat (less than 20 feet) desirable, but not required. Bachelor of Science in natural resource sciences is required.
