Job Description:

SES Environmental Resource Solutions (ERS) LLC, a full service environmental consulting firm located in Jacksonville, Florida, is looking for a full-time field biologist to fulfill daily monitoring on the Camp Croft State Park site located in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Croft State Park was a former WWII Infantry Replacement Training Center known as Camp Croft. The camp was occupied from 1941-1945 by over 250,000 soldiers, administrative and management personnel. In 1950, an agreement with the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the State of South Carolina was enacted through a quitclaim deed. This deed provided 7,054 acres± to the state for public use. Officially entering the state parks system by the 1960’s, Croft State Park is now heavily used by horseback riders, mountain bikers, hikers, fishers, boaters and more.

The focus of this project is to complete Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) remedial action. MEC detecting equipment will be utilized to sweep habitat within Camp Croft, identifying subsurface MEC for removal. Prior to deployment of detecting arrays limited vegetative clearance will be required to allow equipment to access natural habitats.

As the monitoring field biologist on this project, the goal is to survey for the 10 species of concern (8 plants and 2 animals) with the potential to occur within the park. Additionally, the field biologist will work with clearance crews to maintain the natural diversity and density of the forest while mechanical clearance of the understory allows the use of geophysical scanning to detect targets of interest. The field biologist will also interact with vegetative clearing crews, informing crews as to areas of interest located within the park. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to, occurrence of listed species, presence of potential habitat for listed species, nesting birds, presence of invasive/exotic vegetation, and identification of desirable canopy and subcanopy species.

The duration of this position is anticipated at 12-18 months. Upon completion of the Camp Croft project, a potential employment opportunity may be possible at the Jacksonville, Florida office.
