Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to coordinate the planning, development, and implementation of wildlife habitat restoration projects on lands managed by the US Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) throughout New Mexico.

 

Major duties of this position include:

 

Task 1 - Habitat Restoration Project Development and Implementation (Field/Office)

Act as a New Mexico Department of Game & Fish representative for the development and implementation of wildlife habitat restoration projects. This task will require significant coordination of partnerships with agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service. Each year, restoration project funding is made available for these restoration projects through the Habitat Stamp Program and other funding sources.

 

Task 2- Project Management (Field/Office)

The individual in this position is responsible for significant project management duties for multiple habitat restoration projects dispersed throughout the entire state. Examples include the scheduling of permitted activities, identifying prospective contractors to carry out project work, acquiring bids, overseeing contracted activities including site orientation and inspections, tracking of project and program budgets, and approving invoices for payment.

 

Task 3 - Public Outreach (Field/Office)

The individual in this position attends several public meetings each year and gives presentations related to the collaborative habitat restoration efforts of the Department. This position regularly communicates with a wildlife habitat restoration Citizen Advisory Committee, and coordinates at least two (2) field tours for this Committee each calendar year.

 

Task 4 - Program Administrative Duties (Office)

The individual in this position is responsible for the following: submitting all required reports, receipts and other administrative documents per Department policies, procedures and accepted standards: maintaining all vehicles, equipment, uniforms, facilities and lands per policy and accepted standards; demonstrating professional business writing skills in letters, memos, emails and other official reports and documents; communicating effectively and professionally within and across Department Divisions and with external customers; writing a detailed, concise and engaging annual program report and publishing regular updates on the Department website through coordination with our web development staff. www.wildlife.state.nm.us/conservation/habitat-stamp

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate will have the following experience and education:

 

3-5 years of experience with wildlife habitat restoration project planning and implementation.

 

3-5 years of experience evaluating wildlife habitat in the Western United States.

 

3-5 years of experience navigating in outdoor wilderness settings.

 

3-5 years of experience working as a plant, wildlife or fisheries biologist in the Western United States.

 

3-5 years of experience using ArcGIS software.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Range Management, Range Science, Wildlife Biology, Environment Science, Conservation Science, Natural Resources, Watershed Management, Anthropology or Archeology and two (2) years of experience in Forestry or Range Management, Range Science, Wildlife Biology, Environment Science, or Watershed Management, Anthropology or Archeology.
