Job Description:
  • Organize and develop basic area management plans and accomplishment tracking.

  • Use Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to collect data, i.e., shape files for management plans.

  • Oversee the purchase of materials and supplies needed for area operations.

  • Provide general technical habitat management assistance on private lands.

  • Oversee research activities on public areas (include overseeing data collection, and third-party agreements).

  • Oversee work crews to ensure they are following safety protocols. 

  • Collect standard scientific and/or research information.  

  • Coordinate and conduct basic research and survey tasks within a limited geographic location. 

  • Restore and create wildlife habitat and monitoring wildlife and fish populations and maintaining easily accessible records of survey results.

  • Develop annual work and wildlife management area plans and maintain records associated with facility operations or other specific activities.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of general dendrology and silvicultural practices and marking trees for timber sales.

  • Knowledge of federal guidelines related to endangered species and timber management activities. 

  • Knowledge of prescribed fire practices.

  • Knowledge of herbicide application must obtain WV Department of Agriculture Certified Public Applicator status. 

  • Knowledge of federal permit guidelines to ensure state’s compliance.

  • Knowledge of Taxa specific knowledge, including federally listed species.  

  • Knowledge of forest inventory and cruising electronic data collection.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to oversee timber sales from conducting inventories, marking, and setting up timber sales.

  • Ability to develop and implement habitat management plans.

Salary:
$35,994.00 - $66,589.00 Annually
