Job Description:

The West Virginia Forestry Association (WVFA) is currently seeking to fill our Executive Director position. WVFA was founded in 1952 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Association promotes the public interest of forestry within the state, while serving the needs of timber and wood producers, manufacturers, industry suppliers, and consumers in the economic, efficient, and widespread stewardship of timber and related resources through the free enterprise system.

The Executive Director is the chief operating officer and managing executive of the WVFA under the supervision of the President of the Association and works at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director provides strategic guidance to the Board of Directors, manages staff, programs, and initiatives of the organization, and provides leadership toward the achievement of the Association’s mission, goals, and objectives.

The position requires specific education and experience, as detailed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a forestry/natural resource discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience in Association Management is preferred.
  • Government relations experience and demonstrated skill with public policy analysis, strategy, and implementation, coalition building, grassroots mobilization, and communications are beneficial.
  • Management experience with an association or forestry organization/industry is preferred.

The responsibilities of the Executive Director include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Promote WVFA and the forestry industry,
  • Manage day-to-day operations of WVFA,
  • Support the WVFA Board of Directors and Executive Committee,
  • Advocate for the best interests of the membership with state and federal government officials in the development of laws, regulations, and policies, and
  • Oversee communications activities including public relations, publications, website, and electronic media
