YCC Mentor Summary:

YCC Mentors will work in a team of two guiding a crew of up to 10 young adults, ages 17-18, in conservation projects across Arizona. Mentors are expected to provide training, leadership and direction, while leading their crews by example through hard work, safety and with enthusiasm. A passion for being outdoors and working with a team is required. 

Orientation Start Date: May 30th, 2022

Tonto National Forest: 5/30/2022-7/22/2022

Prescott National Forest: 5/30/2022-7/29/2022

Petrified Forest National Park: 5/30/2022-7/22/2022

Coconino National Forest: 5/30/2022-7/22/2022

Compensation: $475/week issued biweekly

Training

YCC Mentor leadership training will focus on youth specific training including: youth development, motivation, supervision, discipline. Other topics may include: Leave No Trace, outdoor living, crew culture, diversity, and goal setting. Depending on project needs, crews may receive possible specialized instruction in trail building and maintenance, surveys and inventories, fence building or facilities repair. On-the-job training and education will continue throughout the term covering topics such as tool maintenance, plant identification and an overview of public land management agencies.

 

 

Qualifications:

Be between the ages of 21 and 25

Have US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency status. 

Have a high school diploma or GED (preferred)

Pass background checks: all offers of positions are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and Federal criminal background check

Must be eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Education Award

Full vaccination against COVID-19 by the first day of employment and ability to provide proof of vaccination before starting

Salary:
$475 weekly stipend
